Discover tips and tricks on tracing your local story, uncovering historical resources, and preserving your heritage for future generations. Historic England in partnership with Norfolk Museum Service and Stories of Lynn are delighted to invite teachers and trainee teachers from your school to a FREE Online Continuing Professional Development Twilight to show you how to uncover your Victorian heritage.
The Session will include:
- How local heritage providers can help your students discover
- key Victorian buildings and visit sites connected to the development of King's Lynn in the Victorian Era.
- The Victorian Gaol - Crime and Punishment in the 19th Century
- The industrial heritage of Kings Lynn and Thetford
- The Port and fishing heritage, plus life for the poor in the North End of Kings Lynn
- The local Victorian Workhouse
- Significant Victorians from the town
- Key documents in the archive
For Each School:
Kate Argyle from Historic England will look at how you and your students can discover your street or village as it existed in the 19th century and find out about the people who lived and worked in it using free online resources such as the listed buildings register, Historical Directories and Census returns - a great opportunity for younger students to handle original sources and conduct their own enquiries.
Local Heritage for EYFS and Sensory Learners

Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse, Norfolk Museum Service and Historic England are delighted to invite teachers and trainee teachers from your school to a free CPD session to explore how heritage settings can inspire EYFS and sensory learning.
Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse is happy to welcome you and there will be an opportunity to explore and experience some of the fantastic workshops they can offer your younger or sensory students. There will also be an opportunity to share ideas about developing local heritage in the curriculum for these students and ideas for building surprise and wonder into your classroom and using role play and story telling to bring the curriculum alive.
There will be practical, hands-on sessions looking at how to engage Early years and reception children with their local heritage and help them take the first steps in building their understanding of the past, chronology and a sense of place. A great opportunity to share ideas and good practice. You will find out how to gain a Heritage Schools Award and discover more free resources available online from Historic England and other Heritage organisations.
