This Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunity is free for teachers and trainee teachers in West Norfolk. The event is fully funded by the Heritage Schools programme.

All attending schools will receive a free digital copy of 'An Illustrated History of King's Lynn 1204 - Present' by Nicola Marray-Woods, historic maps, aerial photos of King's Lynn, and other online resources.
HEN 9: How to discover your Victorian town or village
Historic England, in partnership with Norfolk Museum Service, Stories of Lynn, and True's Yard, invites teachers and trainee teachers to a free CPD day. This event will explore how to use local heritage in the classroom, focusing on the 19th Century.

- Time: 9.30am to 3.30pm
- Starting at Lynn Museum, Market Street, King's Lynn, PE30 1NL
The day will start in Stories of Lynn where we will look at the Victorian Gaol and key documents in the archive; Lynn Museum to look at the industrial heritage of the town. especially Savages and then to the north End to True's Yard to look at the Port and fishing heritage as well as how poorer Lynn residents lived in that era.
Our heritage trail will focus on identifying key Victorian buildings and visit sites connected to the development of the town in the Victorian Era.
Kate Argyle from Historic England will look at how you and your students can discover your street or Village as it existed in the 19th century using maps and old photos. To show you how to discover the people who lived and worked in it, here will be a practical session looking at how to use online resources such as the Listed buildings register, Historical Directories and Census returns with younger students so they can handle original sources and conduct their own enquiries.

HEN 10: The River: invaders, traders, and the changing environment

- Starting at Stories of Lynn, Saturday Market Place, King's Lynn, PE30 5DQ
Historic England, in partnership with Norfolk Museum Service, Stories of Lynn, and True's Yard, invites teachers and trainee teachers to a free CPD day. This event will explore the significance of the River Great Ouse and The Wash in the history of Lynn.
The day will start at Stories of Lynn where we will look at documents and artefacts connected to the story of the significance of Lynn's position on the River Ouse and The Wash. The focus will be on trade in particular the links to the Hanseatic League.
Our heritage trail will focus on identifying key Medieval buildings linked to trade with Europe and visit sites connected to the development of the town in the Medieval period.
Refreshments and lunch will be provided. Please inform us of any dietary requirements.
